From Caring for Her Home to Fighting for Her Mobility: Azima Needs Urgent Support

Bedridden by Severe Osteoarthritis: 55-Year-Old Azima Can No Longer Walk

In the home where eight people live under one roof, there is now a silence that did not exist before.

Once, Azima Ally Banon was the beating heart of the household.

Always moving.
Always standing.
Always serving, cooking, and making sure everyone had eaten and that no one lacked anything.

Today, at 55 years old, she is bedridden.

It all began in October 2021.

The family was preparing for her eldest daughter’s wedding. The house was filled with fabrics, invitation cards, and laughter—a time that should have been filled with joy.

But in the middle of the preparations, Azima’s pain began to intensify.

Walking became difficult.

Even distributing wedding invitation cards became impossible.

Every step felt heavier than the one before.

What initially seemed like minor discomfort gradually turned into constant suffering.

Medical consultations followed one after another.

Clinics became part of daily life.

For some time, monthly injections temporarily relieved the pain, and she was reassured that the treatment was safe.

But over the months, her condition worsened.

The pain increased.

Her feet became severely swollen.

Sometimes, when she moved, an alarming sound could be heard—the sound of the bones in her knees rubbing against each other.

A sound the family says they will never forget.

Then came numbness.

Then loss of balance.

And in December 2025, the unimaginable happened.

Azima became completely bedridden.

The woman who once managed the entire household with energy now depends on others to bathe, move, and perform even the simplest daily tasks.

Every act of care has now become an act of love.

The diagnosis is clear:

severe osteoarthritis of the right hip and both knees
(Osteoarthritis Right Hip & Bilateral Knees).

Today, the only lasting solution is surgical intervention:

  • total replacement of the right hip
  • bilateral hip replacement surgery

An essential procedure to restore her mobility and dignity.

In this home, no one has left her side.

Her husband remains beside her like a silent pillar of strength.

Her children organize themselves so that she is never left alone.

Between university, work, and family responsibilities, each one is doing their part.

Neighbors and loved ones are also offering support.

But despite all the love and solidarity, the financial reality remains a major obstacle.

The cost of the surgical procedures is beyond the family’s means.

Yet Azima rarely complains.

She prays.

She hopes.

She whispers that every trial has meaning, and every pain carries a wisdom known only to Allah.

OMCA Foundation is currently supporting her medical case and is making an appeal for solidarity to help Azima access the surgeries she urgently needs.

Azima is eligible for Zakaat.
