After Losing His Wife to Cancer, 69-Year-Old Fareed Is Now Bedridden
In the home where he now lives with his son and daughter-in-law, Lallmohomod Fareed spends his days lying in bed, often looking at memories of a life that is no longer the same.
For many years, he was not alone.
By his side was his wife—a woman with whom he built a life, shared hardships, family joys, and the passing years. But that stability was shattered when illness entered their home.
His wife was taken away by cancer.
For Fareed, this loss marked a deep turning point. The house became quieter. The days grew longer. Yet despite the grief, he continued to move forward, surrounded by his family.
But shortly after, another battle began.
In 2024, Fareed started experiencing persistent pain in his knees. Thinking it was an age-related joint problem, he began treatment in the private sector to try and relieve the pain.
Over time, the situation changed.
An unusual weakness appeared in both his feet. Walking became more difficult. His balance weakened. Concerned, he consulted again, and an MRI of the lumbar spine was recommended.
The results revealed certain abnormalities, but nothing that fully explained the severity of his symptoms.
Faced with the rising cost of private consultations, Fareed turned to Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital.
Doctors then decided to perform cervical spine surgery.
For the family, this procedure represented new hope—the hope of seeing his condition improve.
But after the surgery, the situation took an unexpected turn.
Instead of regaining mobility, Fareed gradually became bedridden.
The numbness in his feet intensified. The weakness became permanent. Moving around became almost impossible without assistance.
Physiotherapy was recommended to help him recover.
Despite the sessions and all efforts made, no significant improvement was observed.
For his loved ones, the situation became increasingly difficult to accept. The man who had already endured the pain of losing his wife was now facing the gradual loss of his own independence.
It was then that his nephew, Ismael, decided to seek further answers.
Seeing his uncle’s condition deteriorate and solutions becoming limited, he contacted the OMCA Group for a specialized medical opinion.
New evaluations revealed the presence of a soft tissue mass in the right paravertebral region.
This discovery opened a new medical pathway.
A comprehensive evaluation followed by surgical excision is now urgently required in order to treat the mass and hopefully improve his condition.
After standing by his wife in her fight against cancer, Fareed is now fighting his own battle.
OMCA Foundation is making an appeal for solidarity to help save Fareed’s life.
Fareed is eligible for Zakaat.
