Fall at the Jummah Mosque: he still pays the price 17 years later
17 years ago, while working at the Jummah Mosque, Soobhun Abdool Monaff takes a heavy fall. An accident that seemed, at that time, to be just an incident… but that will mark the beginning of a long fight.
Hospitalized for three months, he appears to be profoundly weak.
Since this day the pain has never left her.
Over the years his condition is slowly deteriorating. Intense back pain sets in. The nights are getting unbearable. The sleep is disappearing. Sometimes the pain is so strong that it makes him scream.
At the time, doctors advised an operation, which was considered too risky. His children are still young. His wife is at home. So he makes a difficult decision: continue living with the pain.
And there he is.
Over the years.
But the body eventually gives in.
The falls are becoming more frequent. Her balance isn’t the same anymore. Every move becomes a risk. Because of his diabetes, the injuries take months to heal.
And then another hard hit comes
His eyesight is getting worse. Last October he travels to India for eye surgery. Losing the use of his right eye The left is badly hurt. He is forced to stop working.
But on the spot, doctors discover an even more worrying reality.
His repeated falls are not just related to his vision. Her spine is in an advanced condition, requiring urgent care.
And that’s not all.
For the past few months, his general condition has worsened. Shortness of breath, tiredness, swollen foot… worrying signs that the exams in Mauritius did not allow to explain.
In India, the diagnosis is going down.
Abdool Monaff suffers from a severe coronary disease. His arteries are in trouble. The risk of heart attack is high.
An angioplasty with stent placement is now urgently needed.
For his daughter, Kawsar, 22, the situation is hard to accept.
« I know what I’m holding on for… Zordi is afraid to be weak, he can’t move like before. We live with the per tou le zour. »
Behind this patient is a man who carried his family all his life. A man who endured pain for 17 years and never gave up.
Today he needs help.
Taken care of in India, it requires urgent cardiac surgery and specialized medical follow-up. But the costs far exceed the family’s capabilities.

Cause it all started as a fall.
